The upcoming Fire Festival in Santiago de Cuba

From July 3rd through the 9th, the eastern Santiago de Cuba province will carry out the thirty-eighth and usual event of the Caribbean or Fire festival. Moreover, the celebration will include all the cultural expression and it will be the proper space for the scientific exchange for specialists and experts of the traditional cultures of the area through the theoretical event entitled´El Caribe que nos une.´ (The Caribbean that unites us).
There have been more than 600 people coming from 21 countries who have confirmed their participation, and as a distinctive element, the public will be able to watch a joint exhibition by Alberto Lescay and the National Painting Prize, Eduardo Roca, known as Choco.
Puerto Rico will be the symbolic venue.
The event will be specifically dedicated to the sister nation of Puerto Rico.
During those days, the participants will pay homage to the host nation with which Cuba has close social, economic and historic links.
According to the program, there are more than 150 Puerto Ricans who will participate in the festival, including the singer Andy Montañez, the folk group entitled ´Majestad Negra´ and Tony Mapeyé and its group.
Among the guests of honors, the composer Rafael Hernández, known as El Jibarito, who is a renowned musician worldwide due to his local Bolero musical genre and songs, will be present. Who don´t remember the songs entitled´El Cumbanchero´ or ´Lamento Boricano´?
In addition, the public will be able to acquire a new record with the emblematic works by Rafael Hernández and played by the Ecos del Tivoli septet (The Recording process by the local Egrem Siboney with Bis Music Production). Moreover, a homage will be paid to the Puerto Rican leader of the independence, Pedro Albizu Campos, 125 years of his birthday.
The international Colloquium event entitled´ El Caribe que nos une.´ (The Caribbean that unites us).
The theoretical event of the festival will include the history and the culture of the peoples of the region through the themes which ponder its rich heritage, art and history.
According to the website of the Caribbean cultural center, the academic and cultural space urges to think about the following themes:

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
