Peace Forum Demands the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

Havana, Cuba - The Forum of Youths for a World of Peace without Nuclear Weapons demanded on Tuesday in Havana for the prohibition of arms of mass destruction in order to avoid a repeat of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which were destroyed from the face of the Earth 73 years ago by the United states.
Survivors and some descendants of that barbaric event on August of 1945 denounced at the encounter the threat it represents for Humanity the existence of such weapons.
The group made the statement at the Raul Roa Higher Institute of International Relations before the arrival of the Peace Boat that began its 18th visit to Havana an NGO based in Japan.
Terumi Kuramori and Jouji Ueda, who survived the bombing called on the new generation to unite in the fight against weapons of mass destruction to avoid another barbaric incident that caused the immediate death to over 200 thousand people without taking into account the consequences of the radiation in humans.
No one in the world should suffer like the hibakushas, whose bodies were unrecognizable and referred to the consequences in the decision of US President Harry Truman (1884-1972) of bombing Hiroshima on August 6 th, 1945 and Nagasaki only three days later.
The President of the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, ICAP, Fernando Gonzalez called for all to multiply the stories told for the youth to learn on the most cruel genocide that humanity has ever seen.
He characterized as history the approval of the UN Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in 2017 and affirmed that Cuba is proud of having signed the accord and added that all countries should do the same for its total ratification.
The ICAP President warned that the current international system, with inequality on the rise, the arms race, including the conservation and modernization of the nuclear weapons, consumes much of the resources that could and must be designated to economic development.
In addition, the reduction of poverty and hunger, the creation of jobs and the increase in the access to health and education, said Gonzalez Llort who praised the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro’s visit in 2003 to the Holocaust Museum in Hiroshina where he wrote in the Book of Honor: “We Hope that such barbarism will never happen again”.
Representatives of Cuban organizations participated in the Forum for Peace sponsored by ICAP and other national institutions with Peace Boat that traditionally docks in Cuban port through its journeys.
The Peace Boat came from New York and will continue to the Cayman Islands and Cartagena, Colombia after their visit to Cuba.
Passengers from several countries carried out visits to community, health, cultural, senior centers and places of historic interests, according to the ICAP program.
