Pretoria - Discussions about the new Cuban Draft Constitution in South Africa and the kingdoms of Lesotho and Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) have resulted in 326 proposals for changes, ambassador Rodolfo Benitez informed on Wednesday.
The diplomat, who represents the island in the three nations with residence in Pretoria, told Prensa Latina that about 30 consultation meetings are planned on the draft, 28 of them in South Africa and one respectively in Lesotho and Eswatini, with a total participation of 626 Cubans.
They represent Cuba's collaboration in the fields of health, education, defense, construction and water resources, in addition to the staff of the Cuban embassy, he said.
More than 200 Cubans (98 percent) have participated in eight of these meetings in South African territory, where those meetings will continue until October 1.
According to Benitez, the debates are being intense, reflected in the number of proposals so far to the Draft Constitution, and demonstrate the high level of preparation of the participants, who are conducting a thorough study of the new Constitution.
The ambassador stated that 'there is widespread recognition of the relevance for the current and future generations of Cubans of this genuinely democratic exercise, in which the opinions and proposals of each citizen is included.'
The meetings in South Africa for the analysis of the Law of Laws of Cuba take place in the nine provinces of this country, in all of them with the assistance of collaborators of the Caribbean nation.
