Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Reaffirms Interest in Links with UK

London - Cuban deputy minister of Foreign Relations, Ana Teresita Gonzalez, held talks today in this capital with David Maxim Triesman, British parliament member and Co-president of Initiative Cuba.

During their talks, with the participation also of other members of the organization created over 20 years ago in the Caribbean Council, Gonzalez expressed interest in continue tightening bilateral economic, friendship and cooperation alliances.

She highlighted that in these moments, Cuba has created the Special Development Zone of Mariel (ZEDM) and a new Law of Foreign Investment, which give greater potential to advance in economic and trade relations.

The Caribbean Council has as objectives the promotion of closer economic, commercial and investment relations, as well as generating a sustained increase of trade and investment in key sectors.

To the Cuba Initiative belong British companies interested in doing business with the island.

Through the Twitter social network, Gonzalez termed as profitable the meeting and ratified the commitment to continue developing and promoting economic, trade and investment relations.

Gonzalez toured the Palace of Westminster, see of the British parliament, together with Triesman and the Cuban ambassador in the UK, Teresita Vicente Sotolongo.

The Cuban official met with sectors of the British society linked to the Caribbean nation and with a representation of Cuban residents in the UK.

The diplomat also spoke with Simon McDonald, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the UK, where it was stressed the mutual will to go forward.

The eve, she met with Rob Miller, director of the Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba and members of other British solidarity organizationskl occasion when she thanked them for the support offered to her country.

At the London headquarters of the British-Irish Trade Union Unite, Gonzalez also spoke with a wide representation of that movemwent and members of important organizations defenders of workers' rights.

According to the agenda, she will fly tomorrow to Iceland and will visit Ireland on September 29 until October 1.

Previously, the deputy Foreign Minister visited Belarus, Georgia, Poland, Turkey and Uzbekistan, where she confirmed the excellent links and disposition to expand them.
