Irrevocable principles

Essential aspects such as the irrevocability of the socialist system, the principles of social justice and humanism and the leading role of the Communist Party of Cuba as an organized vanguard and the leading force of society and the State, are reaffirmed in the current Constitution of the Republic of Cuba.

Article 1 of the Constitution refers: Cuba is a socialist State of law, democratic, independent and sovereign, organized with all and for the good of all, as a unitary and indivisible republic, founded on work, dignity and ethics of its citizens. Its essential objectives are: the enjoyment of political freedom, equity, justice and social equality, solidarity, humanism, welfare and individual and collective prosperity.

A new element is introduced in this article of the Constitutional Reform: Socialist State of Law (It is the conception of the State that reflects that its structure and functioning are governed by compliance with what is established in the Constitution of the Republic and in the rest of the regulations that make up the legal system).

In terms of constitutional supremacy, established is the duty to abide by the Constitution, and that all dispositions and actions of state institutions, directors, functionaries, and employees must conform to what is stipulated.

The term socialist refers to a State based on social justice. Social justice together with freedom, independence, sovereignty, equality and equity, are principles of the Cuban socialist project, which means ensuring basic universal rights and real opportunities so that all citizens can develop their physical, intellectual and spiritual

The basic objectives of the State are to strengthen national unity, preserve national security, promote sustainable development that ensures individual and collective prosperity, work to achieve greater levels of equity and social justice, preserve and multiply the achievements of the Revolution, strengthen the ideology and ethics of our socialist society and protect the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the nation.

The Communist Party of Cuba, continuator of the Cuban Revolutionary Party founded by José Martí in 1892, continues to be the highest governing body of society and the State, as a fundamental pillar of unity and political, economic and social order; enhancing its democratic character, based on the human being as protagonist and representing the interests of workers.
