Blockade Halts Cuba's Development, Economist Denounces

Havana - The Vice President of the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba (ANEC), Ramon Labañino, stated on Thursday that the blockade imposed by the United States on the island hinders the development of all sectors of society.
'The persecution of financial transactions, the limited access to sources of credit and the hindering of foreign investments are some of the damages caused by the unilateral encirclement,' the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, one of the five anti-terrorists who served long sentences in the United States, stressed in an interview with Prensa Latina.
He also pointed out that the consequences aggravated by the current White House administration hit sectors such as the tourism, food and chemical industries, and have a strong impact on the Cuban population.
The ANEC Vice President illustrated the impact of the hostile policy towards the island with a recent example, the cancellation of the entry to a Cuban port of medicines donated by the non-governmental organization Caritas, as the ship is North American property.
Labañino intervened this Thursday in the public hearing against the blockade called by the National Assembly of Popular Power, held at the headquarters of the ANEC.
In this regard, he highlighted the repudiation of the almost 80,000 economists of the association to sanctions against Cuba, extended to the different sectors of society.
