President of Cuba: US Blockade Generates Hardships for the Peoplea

Havana - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel affirmed that the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the country generates hardships and punishes the families of the Caribbean island.
In his social account Twitter @DiazCanelB, the head of state said that this hostile attitude is the essential and defining element of relations between Havana and Washington.
The Cuban leader described as cruel that White House policy against the Caribbean nation, which also alters the constitutional order.
In a previous message, Diaz-Canel stressed that the aggressive application of the blockade violates the sovereignty and interests of all countries.

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) issued a statement on Tuesday rejecting recent remarks by Peruvian-Spanish writer Mario Vargas Llosa, in which he blamed social outbreaks in the continent on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and promoted an internal uprising in Cuba.

Havana - Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto was appointed president of Casa de las Américas, the center's website La Ventana reported today.
Prieto, former minister of Culture and currently serving as director of the Marti Program Office and president of the José Martí Cultural Society, was nominated for the post by Alpidio Alonso, current Culture Minister.
