Caravan of Migrants Regroups and Grows in Chiapas, Mexico

Mexico - The caravan of Central American migrants regrouped and has grown on Monday in Tapachula, Chiapas, with the purpose of continuing northwards to the United States border.
More than 7,000 migrants arrived in groups to Tapachula, where they were concentrated without major problems with the Mexican Federal Police, which barely made two threats to contain them.
'Arriving in Tapachula has been a great step, because we have already broken the barrier and we are demonstrating to our fellow countrymen who are in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala that we have given up ignorance and rebelled against the governments, because they are not governing us, but taking advantage of their power'.
Denis Omar Contreras, one of the representatives of the caravan and a member of the Peoples Without Borders organization accompanying the contingents, told La Jornada.
Migrants seek political refuge in the United States, whose president, Donald Trump, has labeled them as criminals and has closed the door in advance.
However, many also bet to take refuge in Mexico, so they are waiting for some government proposal.
If Mexico opens the door and gives us political refuge, we stay here, because we can make our lives and move forward with dignity by working hard, said Contreras, who lives in Tijuana and is an activist for the rights of migrants.
