Turkey Calls for Suspension of Sanctions on Iran

Ankara - Turkey on Wednesday has called on the United States to drop the unilateral sanctions on Iran that is set to come into effect on November 4, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu said.
'We have conveyed (to Washington) our necessary demands to get exemption on this issue,' Cavusoglu stressed, and recalled that Japan, Asia and the European Union countries are also against these sanctions.
Despite this, President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, already mentioned some few days ago that Turkey will continue taking natural gas from Iran and Russia.
Cavusoglu considered that the Washington unilateral decision affects the rest of the countries and the credibility of the United States will be harmed, for which he recommended that before taking measures, the countries of the region and all those who trade with Iran should be consulted.
He recalled that despite the United States has withdrawn from the nuclear deal signed with Iran, the European countries did not withdraw, which 'it means that they value this deal,' he added.
In May, U.S. President Donald Trump decided to withdraw the historical nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and the P5+1 group of nations, the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany.
Trump restored sanctions on Tehran in August, with sanctions targeting Iran's oil sector set to retake effect on November 4 that will affect all countries it supplies, including Turkey.
