Cuban University Works on Projects in Mariel Special Development Zone

Artemisa - The University of Computer Sciences (UCI) of Cuba is working on projects and business opportunities in the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM, in Spanish).

Such a work is possible thanks to the inauguration this week of an UCI permanent office in the ZEDM, a major economic enclave that is 45 kilometers west of Havana.

Maikel David Ruenes, a methodologist with the Transfer and Coordination Directorate of the office, referred to the office's objectives and mission to guarantee the identification, deployment and solutions of high added value in the fields of automation and computer sciences for ZEDM companies, the UCI noted on its website.

Ruenes pointed out that seven UCI experts are working in the new office.

When referring to the development of projects, he underlined that among the most outstanding ones are the Single Window System for the ZEDM, an economic enclave that was established five years ago.

The ZEDM's website (www.zedmariel.com), launched in the 35th edition of the International Trade Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2017), was developed by the UCI.

Next week, the ZEDM will present its business and investment opportunities at FIHAV 2018, Cuba's major commercial event and one of the most important in Latin America.

The Havana-based UCI is a project by the Cuban Revolution with two main objectives: computerizing the country and developing the software industry to contribute to Cuba's economic development.
