Five years after its creation, the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM) presented on Tuesday, within the framework of the III Investment Forum, 10 new users of the area, with which they reach 41, from 19 countries.

During the meeting, the recently approved concessionaire ViMariel S.A., for the development of an industrial park, as well as six companies with 100 percent foreign capital, were discussed.

In this group are, from Spain, Resa Caribe S.A., to offer industrial and constructive maintenance, and CTB Service S.A. which will be dedicated to equipment rental and maintenance with qualified technical service.

Angusa Mariel S.A. of Chile, is a logistic operator which will be dedicated to the management of warehouses, transport, everything with technologies of end, and Lenses of the Caribbean, of El Salvador, for the manufacture and commercialization of ophthalmological products.

The list also includes TGT Caribe, an entity that will manufacture cheese and dairy products, a process for which production chains are indispensable, said Teodoro García, president of the Spanish group TGT.

Garcia explained that the main objective is to supply the national hotel network and the domestic market, although 50 percent of its productions are meant for export.

In the case of the joint ventures, there are three new ones approved, among them Suchel TBV S.A., -Cuba and Vietnam-for obtaining powdered detergents and other related products, and Vidrios Mariel S.A. -Cuba and Italy- for the manufacture of glass containers.

The latest is the Innovatie Immunotherapy Alliance - Cuba and the United States - which will focus on research, development and commercialization of innovative medicines, starting with CIMAvax-EGF and three other innovative immunotherapies.

Wendy Miranda, director of ZEDM's Single Window System, recalled that the area is a long-term visionary project that is part of updating the Cuban economic model.

She pointed out that in the last five years they worked on the master plan of sector A, and that they are now going to develop in parallel in H and B.

She also pointed out that the business development program is in the final approval phase and that 15 users are already in operation.

Regarding the 2018 results, she stated that it has been a very positive year due to the fact that they have captured the largest number of investment capital by the companies that are settling in the area.
