Cuban and U.S. Scientific Work Counters Blockade

Havana -The joint work of U.S. and Cuban scientists on autism in a book counters the blockade imposed by the United States government on this island, says the main author, Maria de los Angeles Robinson Agramonte.

It is a research we presented at a symposium sponsored by the International Society of Neurochemistry (ISN), developed by an international team, said the expert of the International Center of Neurologic Restoration (Ciren) to Prensa Latina.

Under the title Translational Approaches to Autism Spectrum Disorder, the volume was written proposed by Springer. The largest international editorial of scientific books, based in the United States, she said.

The text of 11 chapters, has had great visibility since its publication in 2015 and today is found in the medical library of the White House, stressed the also specialist in immunology.

As doctor Robinson says, the fact of having the contribution of U.S. authors means they believe in Cuban science.

That is very good for us and -also- it is a way to contribute to the struggle of overcoming the commercial, economic and financial blockade of the United States against the greater of the Antilles, she celebrated.

Together with the visibility, it has world reach due to the number of quotes discharged, that event gives us great satisfaction, she expressed.

That important instrument is the first to cover in a trans-disciplinary way, all the aspects related to the disorders of the autistic spectrum.

It is a work of obligatory consultation, it is a valuable academic tool of postgraduates, she recognized.

While conceptualizing autism, she said it is a severe disorder of neurodevelopment, characterized by the déficit of social interaction and accompanied by other factors related to the stereotyped behaviors in those patients.

Doctor Robinson Agramomte leads -together with director of Ciren, Hector Vera- a project oriented to the evaluation of neurobiological markers of disorders in the autistic spectrum, as well as the tolos of intervention.
