Cuban President Arrives in China

Shanghai, China - Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrived in Shanghai on Wednesday to begin a state visit to China, where he will meet the host Chief of State, Xi Jinping, and three other high figures of the country.
During his stay here the Cuban President will complete an intense work agenda that includes the signing of bilateral agreements and a tour of the International Import Exhibition of China, opened yesterday in this town and where Cuba participates with a varied sample of its leading products and services.
Apart from Xi Jinping, he will also talk with the prime minister, Li Keqiang, and the presidents of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Li Zhanshu and Wang Yang, respectively.
Diaz-Canel had a previous stop in Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
China is the fourth stop of its first tour of Europe and Asia after taking office last April.He visited before this Asian country en 2013 and 2015

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) issued a statement on Tuesday rejecting recent remarks by Peruvian-Spanish writer Mario Vargas Llosa, in which he blamed social outbreaks in the continent on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and promoted an internal uprising in Cuba.

Havana - Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto was appointed president of Casa de las Américas, the center's website La Ventana reported today.
Prieto, former minister of Culture and currently serving as director of the Marti Program Office and president of the José Martí Cultural Society, was nominated for the post by Alpidio Alonso, current Culture Minister.
