New times, ancient methods

Artemisa, Cuba - Taking into account the phases of the moon, the system of crops rotation, the exchange and association of crops, the use of biological means, the application of organic fertilizers and earthworm humus, are the main agroecological challenges developed in 7 Credit and Service Cooperatives and in 3 Cooperatives of Agricultural Production in San Antonio de los Baños.
Agroecology is a new scientific discipline that returns to the use of ancient methods in agriculture. Its objective is to achieve productivity and conserve natural resources through non-aggressive procedures and respecting crop seasons.
Agroecological practices are based on the use of natural products, mainly for the fertilization of soils and the control of pests and diseases, enabling a healthier and higher quality production, in sustainable quantities.
In the La Felicia farm, El Cordobán Garden obtained the status of Agroecological Farm, in addition, it has the Fourth Crown of Excellence in Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture. The times when agriculture meant only harvest, without taking into account the secondary effects and the damage caused to the environment, were left behind. Agroecology is the key to sustainability.
