Mariel Construction and Assembly Company (ECM) not only builds the foundations of a prosperous and promising Development Zone for the Cuban economy. There also the pillars of the trade union movement acquire daily strength with workers commitment , already an example in the payment of union dues, the Contribution of the Homeland or blood donations. A force that is also visible in the emulative movements that unite workers in problems solutions.
Qualified as strategic, given the importance of equipments in the constructive activity, the Vanguardist Movement of Machinery Workers, was created to systematically foster and disseminate the work of those who stand out in the exploitation, maintenance and care of expensive and highly productive means of work.
With a comprehensive evaluation of its status and operation, the Insignia Teams of each basic business unit (UEB) are selected, representative of the image of the group and compliant with the established requirements; they are identified with a label or sticker, while the operators or drivers are distinguished with a certificate and representative seal.
Due to the results, in the course of the year, the UEB of Transport and the Workshops are at the forefront.
In the first quarter, two new UEBs (Industrial Production and Roads) were incorporated into the movement. And four groups of Promoters of the Vanguardist Movement of Machinery Workers were declared.
Teaching
"When coming to earth, every man has the right to be educated, and then, in return, the duty to contribute to others education." This phrase of our Apostle, José Martí, perfectly applies to the work of the members of the Construction Master Detachment Ernesto Che Guevara, a movement that began with seventeen members and today has more than a hundred.
The members have a mission: to train new generations to guarantee quality and stability in constructive works. They have knowledge and skill in the job, they are examples in their staff and replicators of knowledge to workers in training.
Aleyran Lozano Rivero, vice president of this Detachment and director of the UEB Training, has accompanied the teachers at all times and today recalls his beginnings: "The first courses of plumbing, integral operator and electrician were taught at the Pelican Business Center, when It was still under construction.
"At the moment, all the company´s job are included in the detachment, both in the civil activity (carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electricity), and in the equipment part (cylinder, motor grader, concrete plant operator, driver). "
Although each teacher is responsible for his duty in the work, none neglects his teaching work and all are a great support in the training of others, especially in the practical classes on site, always taking into account not to affect the productive day.
"Having this Detachment in the company is a way to recognize these workers within their UEB and in the center. The students accept them well and also show a great demand in the teaching of the courses, "added the director.
Committed to their work, the more than one hundred teachers are aware of their responsibility in workers training , promoting in them the spirit of belonging to the company and the nobility of work.
Sports builders?
The passion and union of the constructors in Mariel ECM is not only evident to finish a work, hence some are also sports fans. Such is the case of young football fan who first joined two clubs (Madridista and Barcelonista) and then joined to create the Youth Sports Movement in Mariel ECM, which represents the entity in friendly matches with other clubs.
Since then and supported by the union bureau of the company, the members of the movement have held meetings against other entities located in the Special Development Zone, and have run into teams San Cristóbal township , in Artemisa.
Innovators of faith
The Mariel Special Development Zone has all the support in material and financial resources of the State and the Cuban Government. However, it requires the intellect of engineers, technicians and workers to solve daily problems . The Forum of Science and Technology is a movement that unites workers of the entity, in search of the most innovative talents and find solutions that lead to the process continuous improvement.
This year there were 24 high-quality jobs, from the recovery of a house of hoses or a computer for a heavy construction equipment, through the creation of a set of tools for the machinery, to the magnificent results in the care to the practice students.
All these movements are led by the Special Trade Union Bureau of the Mariel, which organizes, motivates and mobilizes the builders. It is in practice an organization that promotes the unification of workers in the different tasks entrusted to them and ensures their well-being, discipline, stimulation and improvement.
