Venezuelans Join Haitians, Leave Chile

Santiago de Chile - In less than one week but with conceptual differences, about 94 Venezuelans and 176 Haitians left Chile, in an unprecedented process of repatriation towards their respective countries.
The case of Venezuelans corresponds to the return plan established by President Nicolas Maduro, called 'Vuelta a la Patria' (Return to the Homeland), which has no cost or demands, nor a registration period.
The first 94 citizens who preferred to leave Chile to return Venezuela took a charter plane of the Venezuelan state airline Conviasa in the last hours that departed from Santiago to Caracas.
According to Venezuelan ambassador, Arevalo Mendez, about 200 people showed interest in the program that will allow them to return to their respective regions and this is part of a social plan for job search and reintegration.
The source stated that the initiative is replied in other countries such as Colombia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina, with the aim of offering new opportunities to those who wish to return to Venezuela, after the exodus that brought about 177,000 people to Chile.
On the other hand, about 176 Haitian citizens were repatriated under the government's voluntary return program.
This is an initiative of the Ministry of the Interior to facilitate the return to their homeland of Haitian citizens who failed in their attempts to live a better life in Chile, due to lack of work, problems with language and climate.
