Artemisa, Cuba - Liset Duany Pulido, Comprehensive General Medicine Specialist, in charge of the Maternal and Child Care Program in San Antonio de los Baños, states that specialists from different health areas explain to mothers how to prevent respiratory infections.
The doctor argues that breastfeeding, exclusive until 6 months and complementary to 2 years, is the best option to prevent babies from getting sick. It is also important to cover the mattress, wipe the furniture with a damp cloth, never sweep the rooms where the child sleeps and avoid contact with virus carriers, among other preventive measures.
During the winter period, respiratory infections increase in children, so families should know how to prevent them. The common cold, tonsillitis, adenoiditis, nasal obstruction and bronchiolitis, which affects children under 1 year, are some of the conditions for which children often go to the doctor.
The specialist encourages parents to see the doctor immediately if they see any symptoms, because the delay leads to health complications in these patients.
