Cuba Lashes Out at OAS for Hostile Action on US Order

Havana - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Minrex, in Spanish) has denounced a new hostile action by the Organization of American States (OAS), acting on orders of the US Government.

According to Minrex, on September 18, 2018, the permanent representative of the United States to the OAS announced that they would hold a hearing in October on criminal allegations against Cuban leaders.

This order from the United States was finally executed by OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro on Friday, December 7, 'when he mounted a farce about human rights in Cuba, acting against the Cuban Revolution and its main leaders,' the Ministry's website underlines.

On the issue, the Director General of Latin America and the Caribbean of Minrex, Eugenio Martinez, stressed neither the OAS nor its secretary general, nor its true manipulators, has any authority to judge what Cubans do in a selfless, altruistic and friendly manner to grow and develop free and independent.'

Friday's staging at the OAS had no support, said the official who added: 'It is a vulgar slander by the OAS secretary general to say Cubans are involved in acts of torture in Venezuela and Nicaragua'.

According to Martinez, 'the only Cuban torturers in Venezuela were terrorist Luis Posada Carriles and other agents of the Central Intelligence Agency, whom the OAS never condemned, nor was it ever concerned about the inhumane and cruel treatment given to prisoners at the illegal jail of the United States in the occupied territory of Guantanamo.'

The official insisted 'the OAS has always been a tool of the United States to apply the Monroe Doctrine the US Government is reviving. Once again that discredited organization and its secretary general underestimate the sovereignty of our countries in order to, with total disrespect, refer to sister nations such as Venezuela and Nicaragua.'

The actions of those who want to impose new sanctions against Cuba and help the US Government fabricate pretexts to heighten tension between the two countries will bring discredit to themselves, he concluded.
