Chinese company finishes seismic campaign for Cuban oil, results for sale

Xin Hongkai, General Manager of the Chinese firm BGP Multi Client, announced in Havana the beginning of the international commercialization of the results of its marine seismic campaign in two non-exclusive directions, to contribute to the development of the Cuban oil industry.

The companies interested in its acquisition can request them from our headquarters in Tianjin or from the Cuba-Petroleum Union (CUPET) in Havana, the director of BGP, one of the world leaders in the sector and who has advanced technologies and extensive experience, informed the Cuban News Agency exclusively.

He described as very promising for Cuba the scope of the investigation, which began in 2016 with the signing of a joint agreement for the acquisition, processing and interpretation of 25 thousand kilometers of high resolution seismic lines, in areas of the Exclusive Economic Zone of Cuba in the Gulf of Mexico, the northern and central eastern areas, as well as the south of the country.

The project is the largest of its kind carried out to date in Cuba and allowed not only to identify, but also to evaluate areas with potential for hydrocarbon exploration, according to specialists from the Cuba-Petroleum Union, which predicted with its generalization a greater attraction of foreign investors.

Xin Hongkai is one of the businessmen and experts from several countries attending the II Conference on Energy, Oil and Gas of Cuba 2018, which concluded today its sessions at the Meliá Cohíba Hotel, and one of its essential topics consisted of the existing potential for liquid natural gas (LNG) and its incorporation into the national energy matrix.

The presentations and exchanges revolved around the possibilities of using LNG in such operations, on the basis of scalable investments in order to achieve resilience in that field, as well as the latest trends and technologies offered and the requirements to develop existing fields in Cuba.

The dissertations also included infrastructure services for oil and gas operations, the system of suppliers and refining processes in the manufacturing facilities of Havana, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus and Santiago de Cuba, always based on the benefits of Law 118 on Foreign Investment.
