Kremlin Rejects US Criticism of Russian Bombers in Venezuela

Moscow - The Kremlin considered on Tuesday the declarations made by US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, on the deployment of Russian strategic bombers TU-160 to Venezuela as completely inappropriate and highly undiplomatic.

Of course, that is undiplomatic, Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said, commenting on Pompeo's words.

At the same time, Peskov said that the US president, Donald Trump, could give his opinion on statements by the US diplomat, who considered that his predecessor Rex Tillerson is very ignorant and 'lazy to death.'

When referring to Pompeo's assertions about unnecessary expenses of Russia when making a trip with T-160 bombers to Venezuela, the spokesman told reporters that this is odd from a country 'half of whose military budget would be enough to feed the whole of Africa.'

Despite this, Russia continues the search for constructive relations with the United States and we expect reciprocity from Washington, the spokesperson said.

On Monday, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that two TU-160 bombers and an An-124 Ruslan military transport plane, as well as an IL-62 aircraft, made a flight of more than 10,000 kilometers to the Venezuelan international airport of Maiquetia.

In its official note, the aforementioned agency clarified that the flight was made through the Atlantic Ocean and the Barent, Norwegian and Caribbean seas, in strict compliance with international flight standards.
