Cuba hosts Junior Foil World Cup

Havana, Cuba - The best athletes on the planet will gather this weekend in Havana´s Sports City Coliseum to participate in the FIE Junior Foil World Cup.
The tournament will take place on December 15-16 and will be attended by 89 contestants (35 girls and 54 boys) who will compete only in the individual events.
The local girls´ team includes Arays Cordero, Maria Girao and Melisa Perez, while Nelson Ariel Suarez, Alejandro Caraballo and Lekian Valdes make up the boys´ side.
It will be a high-quality competition as there are registered well positioned fencers in the world ranking such as Singapore's Amita Berthier, leader of the girl´s global list, and Venezuelan Anabella Acurero (12).
Meanwhile, Egiptian Mohamed Hamza and Argentina´s Antonio Sarvello, sixth and seventh on the boy´s world ranking, are the 1st and 2nd seed of the contest respectively.
With this event the Cuban fencing closes its performance in 2018, period in which its representatives shone at the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, Colombia.
The Caribbean island is also training to attend next year, on January 11-13, the FIE Women´s Epee Individual & Team Senior World Cup, also with headquarters in the Cuban capital.
However, the main goal for next season of the Cuban fencers will be the Pan American Games of Lima, Peru, from July 26 to August 11.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
