Communist Party Leadership Analyzes Cuban Draft Constitution

The First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Raul Castro Ruz, said that the proposals and observations of the population to the Draft Constitution ''is a valuable working document that we should preserve and use,'' Granma newspaper reports on Thursday.

According to official data, that document was analyzed in more than 133,000 assemblies held throughout the country, in which some 8,900,000 people participated.

All opinions have been thoroughly analyzed and have had a high significance to draw up the new document, Granma states.

According to the information, Raul Castro 'assessed that the data collected with criteria from all sectors of our society are a valuable working document that we should preserve and use.'

The text of the Draft Constitution will be presented to the lawmakers in the coming session of the People's Power National Assembly, scheduled for December 21, when all details will be offered to the population, Granma states.

The official newspaper notes that during the plenary meeting, Council of State secretary Homero Acosta Alvarez gave a detailed explanation on the fundamental aspects of the popular consultation and the draft constitution.

Acosta Alvarez said that during this process, expressions of praise were reiterated for the democratic nature of the consultation, as well as satisfaction for the importance the State has given to the population's criteria, Granma said.
