Montevideo, Dec 26 (Prensa Latina) Uruguay''s Integral System for Childhood and Adolescence Protection against Violence (Sipiav) forecasts Wednesday the year will end with more cases of child sexual abuse.
If during 2017 some 700 abused children were treated, during the first semester of 2018 the cases surpassed 500, according to the president of Sipiav, Maria Elena Mizrhai.In detailed statistics Sipiav reported during 2017 there were 3,155 cases of psychological and physical violence and sexual abuse, and in the middle of 2018 there were 2,840 victims.
Besides taking care of children, it is necessary to work with adults, 'make them aware so they can help the minors,' she emphasized, while expressing concern that there may be cases to those they are not reaching.
She mentioned a recent case of a 47-year-old gymnastics teacher who was accused by one of the teenagers of sexually abusing her. Her denunciation led the authorities to learn of other such crimes in the school campus.
Prosecutor Gabriela Rusiñol, linked to Sipiav, received other related complaints that opened the necessary investigations and the corresponding formalization before the courts of justice.
