Cuba Willing to Relations of Peace and Respect with US, Raul Castro

Cuban leader Raul Castro on Tuesday repeated that Cuba is still willing to maintain a relationship of peace and respect with the United States, despite differences. We are willing to coexist civilizedly in a relation of peace, respect and mutual benefit, the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), said at the main event on the 60th anniversay of the Revolution on January 1.

Raul Castro noted that Cuba is prepared to resist a scenario of confrontation that it does not want with the United States, and charged that from Washington, some officials seem to bet on the atmosphere of hostility.

We hope that the most balanced minds in the US government can prevent it, Raul Castro said at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, in Santiago de Cuba.

In his speech, the leader recalled the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for nearly six decades.

In that regard, he insisted on the Cubans' capacity of resistance, shown since the triumph of the Revolution on January 1, 1959.

Raul Castro mentioned the terrorist acts, the mercenary invasion in 1961, the slander campaigns and the damage to the economy that Cuba has resisted.
