Voters Will Observe Results of Referendum in Cuba

Santa Clara, Cuba - Over 600,000 voters in the central Cuban province of Villa Clara will be able to observe in their polling stations the voting process, the vote count and results of the February 24 referendum on the new Constitution.

Ruben Ramos, president of the Electoral Commission in this territory, told Prensa Latina on Monday that the same procedure will be applied throughout the country.

'This procedure, starting at six o'clock on February 24 in each of the 1,549 polling stations of Villa Clara, will be another example of democracy and revolutionary transparency,' he emphasized.

Ramos stated that about 987 electoral commissions already took positions from January 4 to 13 and four special polling stations were approved, in the keys of the northern Cuban area of Caibarien, the Arnaldo Milian Hospital, the Mariana Grajales Mother Child Hospital, in Santa Clara, and the 9 de Abril Hospital in Sagua la Grande.

The location of special polling stations in these facilities will allow that construction workers and other tourism staff working in hotels of the northern keys, and doctors, nurses and health technicians in hospitals can vote.

About 108 families have offered their homes to turn them into polling stations, demonstrating the solidarity of the people to ratify the Constitution approved on December 22 by the People's Power National Assembly.

Ramos said that the lists with voter's data are available for the electorate to read in 2,800 places of the territory and its verification will be on February 14-15.

The dynamic test will be carried out on February 17, in which each aspect, from logistics, media, transportation, computer system and premises that will receive the voters, will be verified.
