Havana - Havana citizens on Monday highlighted the accelerated pace of recovery in the areas affected by a tornado that hit them on January 27, causing several deaths and considerable material damages.

Residents in the municipalities of Regla, 10 de Octobre and Guanabacoa highlighted the work carried out by the brigades from eight Cuban provinces, belonging to the State-run energy company Union Electrica.

They came to Havana with the necessary equipment to work for the early restoration of such a vital service.

According to authorities of the aforementioned entity, there are few things to do since most of the clients already have electricity, while highlighting that many of the wirings are now more reliable, since more advanced materials and technologies were used.

Cuban Energy and Mines Minister Raul Garcia informed that the primary and secondary energy networks are practically ready, and more than 1,000 men divided into 200 brigades worked on them.

During the weekend, the collection of broken posts, cables and other elements that were damaged also started.

While the assessment of damages in houses continues, the construction of housing for the people affected by the tornado began on February 2.

Cuban Construction Minister Rene Mesa explained that of 3,513 houses with damages so far, the technical data for 2,873 has already been prepared.

According to Mesa, this survey is fundamental for the acquisition of materials for reconstruction.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel insisted on the need that the procedure offices for the purchase of construction materials work with quality and urgency.
