Maduro Calls on Venezuelans to Sign against Interventionist Threat

Caracas - Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro called on Venezuelans today to participate in a national gathering of signatures against interventionist threats from the United States government.

During the commemorative event for the 27th anniversary of the February 4 civic-military rebellion, led by Hugo Chavez, the president called on all the Venezuelan people to raise a pacifist wave in the face of the warmongering pretensions of the Donald Trump administration.

From the Páez Barracks - headquarters of the 422rd Infantry Battalion Colonel Antonio Nicolás Briceño - in Maracay, state of Aragua, Maduro rejected Trump's threats to use military force against Venezuela as a violation of the Charter of the United Nations.

He stressed that the aggressiveness of Washington is the product of obsession with the impossibility of achieving a coup, referring to Washington's support for the self-proclaimed 'president in charge' and head of the National Assembly (Parliament) in contempt, Juan Guaidó.

In recent statements to the North American press, the president of the United States reiterated that the use of military force constitutes an option against Venezuela, and ratified his refusal to dialogue with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro.

Also, Maduro criticized the position of the head of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, to recognize on Monday Guaidó as president in charge of the South American nation, a decision that he described as disastrous in the history of relations between both countries.

The president said that Venezuela does not receive an ultimatum from anyone, given the demand of Spain and other countries of the European Union to call general elections in the country.

Maduro exhorted the governments of the world to repudiate the threats of military intervention against the Venezuelan nation and the warlike policies of the United States government and its allies.
