Great Expectations in El Salvador over Baseball Match with Cuba

San Salvador - Baseball lovers in El Salvador are joyfully awaiting for the friendly dual meet between a national team and a Cuban visiting nine, thinking of enjoying a great show on the field.
German Espinosa, a legend of the Nicaraguan baseball championships and the organizer of the three matches scheduled for next week, assured Prensa Latina that he even expects a victory of the Salvadoran team in at least one of the games, considering that the Cuban team is quite superior in quality.
'This is baseball, people. Do not get scared if we win a single match,' Espinosa said.
Espinosa was the winner of more than 100 matches in the Nicaraguan baseball league, and worked as a 'scout' for the organization of the US Major League Baseball Detroit Tigers.
Talking on the phone from Panama, a place where he is giving promotion to the dual-meet in El Salvador from the Panamanian capital, the scenery of the Caribbean Series right now, Espinosa explained that this initiative seeks to give a good show to the Salvadoran fans, 'greater than what many believe.'
The Salvadoran diaspora, based mostly in the United States, learned to love baseball and franchises such as the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Dodgers are the final destination of many Central American emigrants.
'Football is still the most popular sport in El Salvador, but baseball also moves fans,' Espinosa said.
The host representation trains between the dates of the league calendar, knowing that it will face a team made up of some Cuban baseball legends, such as Friederich Cepeda and Danel Castro.
In addition, in the basbeall team commanded by Cuban legendary shortstop Eduardo Paret there are players who shone in the recent Cuban championship, such as Yosvani Alarcón, César Prieto, Jorge Johnson, Yurién Vizcaíno and Pablo Luis Guillén.
José Luis Avellán, technical director of the Salvadoran team, said that in this Central American nation there are talented players, but without systematic playing and opportunities, given the shortness of the local contest (three months).
The greatest - perhaps the only one- achievement of El Salvador at national team level was the gold in the Central Americans of Tegucigalpa-1990, with two victories over Nicaragua, which came to be runner-up in the World Cup in Edmonton.
