Havana, Cuba - Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economy and Planning, received on Wednesday morning Fernando García Casas, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Kingdom of Spain, who chairs the Spanish delegation participating in the thirty-seventh session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which is being held in Havana.

Havana - Cuba assumed today the presidency of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) during the 37th session of the body, whose sessions take place here. Based at the Conference Center in Havana, the event is the major forum of the body, which positions equality as a fundamental principle for development, ECLAC''s executive secretary, Alicia Barcena, said.

Havana - Cuban intellectual Abel Prieto was appointed president of Casa de las Américas, the center's website La Ventana reported today.
Prieto, former minister of Culture and currently serving as director of the Marti Program Office and president of the José Martí Cultural Society, was nominated for the post by Alpidio Alonso, current Culture Minister.
