Cuba's Lizt Alfonso Ballet Company Prepares Tour of Mexico

Cuba's Litz Alfonso Ballet Company is preparing a tour of several Mexican cities, according to the general director of the dance company.
The CubaSi website reports that the tour will open with the show "Alas" on September 24th and 26th at the Macedonio Alcala Theater of the city of Oaxaca.
ALBA Culture Ministers Discuss Joint Projects in Cuba

Havana - The ministers of culture of the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA, in Spanish) discussed today in Cuba on the sector''s role in reaffirming the identities of their countries.

Havana - Argentina´s Culture Minister Teresa Parodi said today that the spaces of discussion favored by organizations like the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) are fundamental for the integration of the peoples.

Cuba To Host First Salsa Carnival

Havana - The first Cuban carnival of salsa will be held on Feb. 25-28 next year and foreign artists are expected to attend, announced the Cuban music website Suena Cubano.
According to the source, the event, to be held in Havana, will be presided over by arranger and precusionist Maykel Blanco, who is planning to count on many of the most prestigious Cuban groups and foreign artists.
Unesco for Inserting Culture as Development Driving Force

Havana - Unesco Director-General Irina Bokova said today in this capital that recognizing culture as sustainable development driving force is one of the main goals of that internatinal organization''s working program.
In the workshop to pass the Unesco's Working Culture Plan for Latin America and the Caribbean, the diplomat highlighted how necessary is this event because the United Nations will discuss the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals post 2015 late this month.
Uruguay Remembers Mario Benedetti''s 95 Birthday

Montevideo - Uruguayans intellectuals today commemorated the 95 anniversary of the birth of prominent writer, poet and essayist Mario Benedetti, who died in 2009, after leaving a valuable and voluminous work.
The Mario Benedetti Foundation remembers the author of novels like 'The Truce' and 'Thank you for the fire' and it will also announce the Mario Benedetti International Award to the struggle for Human Rights and solidarity.

The Los Cuenteros Puppet Theater Company celebrated its 50th anniversary this November 19 at the Museum of Humor, located in San Antonio de los Baños, with the exhibition ''Fifty years telling stories''. The exhibition shows photographs, puppets and costumes used by Los Cuenteros in various performances since 1969.
