The Organization in Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America (OSPAAAL) granted on Thursday in Havana the Mehdi Ben Barka Solidarity Order to Puerto Rican independence activist Oscar Lopez Rivera.

Buenos Aires - In Buenos Aires, Cuban hero Ramon Labañino thanked Argentineans who climbed the Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas, to express solidarity with Cuba and demand freedom for the Cuban Five.

In recognition of his bravery and resistance for over 36 years while unjustly imprisoned in the U.S., Puerto Rican patriot Oscar López Rivera received, November 14, in the Cuban capital, the Solidarity Order awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.

Puerto Rican independence leader Oscar Lopez Rivera, who is visiting Cuba for the first time, expressed on Monday in Havana his gratitude for the Cuban people, “example of resistance and main defender of Puerto Rican independence”.

Canadian journalist and sociologist Arnold August was presented, in Havana, with the Friendship Medal awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba; an honor which he dedicated to the memory of Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz.
